December 2009 Dan Kase’s Mahogany OM is completed and delivered. I used the Tone-Rite string vibrator on this and another new build for 72 hrs after strung up and stabilized. The action came up a little more and the tone seemed to mature. This may be a good technique to “pre-shrink a new guitar and speed the settling in. We’ll see
I have two commission OM’s ready to go to finish. A Rosewood/Sitka OM and a Koa/Sitka OM with laminated sides. I’m anxious to see how this sounds. They have Brazilian headstock overlays and heelcaps
I lost almost two months in the shop this fall as my wife had her knee replaced in October. Happy to say she is doing great. I’m working more now but things really did slow down for a while.
I have a new Rosewood/Sitka at The Podium. It’s one of my less expensive 201K models with Grover 18:1 open geared tuners and simple appointments. It’s a very nice sounding instrument.

I have two very interesting projects starting. I am building my first archtop. A copy of a Benedetto 17” with X bracing. It will be challenging. I’m just starting to make the molds and jigs.
I am also doing a thinline resonator for Dan Mahar using the Benedetto body outline. It will have a transducer on the cone as well as a magnetic pickup at the end of the fretboard wired in stereo.
Both guitars are a little outside the box for me. I’m really excited about them though. We’ll see-

The resonator archtop is coming along. I laminated solid Cherry for the sides and am using Cherry veneer ply for the top and back. I will be starting a conventional Maple/Sitka archtop after this is done.
Check out the Facebook page of Addam Stark Guitars to see a series on finishing one of my Koa OMs. Addam is a master finisher and used to be the head of the finish department at Santa Cruz. He has done great work for me with Nitro finishes. He will also be showing pictures later of a Rosewood OM that is next on the schedule.
A blog wouldn’t be a blog without baby pictures. Here are Corrine and Lenore, our newest twin grand daughters
